Our Company

A Place That Has Been Quietly Cared For

Heng Yuan was founded on a simple premise: adults who understand their household finances make more considered decisions, and considered decisions tend to serve people well over time.

Our Story

How Heng Yuan Began

Heng Yuan opened its doors in a restored shophouse on Hong Kong Street in 2017. The name — 恒源, meaning steady source — reflects what the founders wanted to create: a place where Singapore adults could return, year after year, to understand their financial situation a little more clearly than before.

The founders had each spent time in the financial industry and in adult education, and they noticed a gap. Most financial education in Singapore was either very basic — the sort of pamphlet you pick up at a community centre — or very product-oriented, designed to move someone toward a policy or a fund. There was little in between. There was almost nothing designed specifically for adults in their forties and fifties, who have usually accumulated assets and commitments that deserve careful thought.

The first Shophouse Series ran in February 2018 with eleven participants around a long table in the room above the street. Eight of those eleven came back for subsequent programmes or referred a family member. That pattern — of people returning and sharing the address with someone they trusted — has been the way Heng Yuan has grown since.

Mission & Values

What We Stand For

Clarity Over Complexity

Household finance is not inherently complicated. Much of what seems complex becomes straightforward when explained patiently, without jargon, by someone who has no interest in selling you anything.

Independence From Products

We do not hold representative licences. We do not receive commissions. Our income comes entirely from the fees participants pay to attend our programmes. This is a deliberate and firm position.

A Considered Pace

We do not rush. Our groups are small, our sessions are unhurried, and our participants are encouraged to ask questions at any point. Understanding that takes two hours to build is more durable than understanding that takes twenty minutes.

Standards

How We Maintain Quality

We hold ourselves to consistent standards across all programmes — in the accuracy of our content, the care we take with participant information, and the quality of the rooms and materials we use.

Annual Curriculum Review

Every programme is reviewed each January against current CPF rules, tax regulations, and MAS guidelines. Any material that has become outdated is revised before the new cohort begins.

No Representative Licence

Heng Yuan does not hold a Capital Markets Services licence, a Financial Advisers licence, or any product distribution licence. This is structural, not circumstantial — it is how we remain independent.

Participant Data Protection

Participant details are collected solely for programme administration, retained for no longer than three years after a programme ends, and never shared with third parties for commercial purposes.

Clear Programme Agreements

Every participant receives a straightforward booking confirmation that sets out what is included, what the fee covers, and what the cancellation terms are. There are no hidden conditions.

Post-Programme Feedback

We ask every participant to complete a short feedback form at the end of their programme. Responses are reviewed and any recurring concern is addressed in the next cohort.

Consistent Venue Standards

All sessions are held in our own seminar rooms, which we maintain to a consistent standard. Tables, chairs, printed materials, and refreshments are prepared before participants arrive.

Financial Education for Singapore Adults 40+

The period from forty to sixty is, for many Singapore households, the most financially consequential of their lives. CPF Ordinary and Special Account balances are accumulating. Housing loans may be winding down. Children's education costs are significant. Retirement is no longer a distant abstraction. And for many, a parent's later years are becoming a financial consideration as well.

These are real, specific, Singapore-shaped questions. They deserve careful attention from someone who understands the local framework — not a foreign retirement model, not generic advice, but a grounded look at how CPF works, what the Supplementary Retirement Scheme offers, how Singapore Savings Bonds fit into a household's picture, and what household documents are worth preparing.

Heng Yuan's programmes are built around these questions. Every session is designed for people who are intelligent adults, who have made their way through careers and mortgages, and who want to understand their finances clearly — not to be told what to do, but to be given the information they need to make their own considered decisions.

Our facilitators have Singapore-specific backgrounds. Our materials are reviewed against local regulations each year. And our groups are kept small enough that no one sits in the back and waits for it to be over.
